Le Petit Chateau is perfectly situated
in this stunning part of France for anything you want from
your holiday. |
The medieval Cite de Carcassonne is free to enter and is just
a short walk from the main town area |
The Medieval Cite de Carcassonne is
a World Heritage site, and you will see just why when you
visit. It is only half an hour away, and finding your way
around, and parking, is easy. |
The square in Carcassonne town centre |
The old city of Carcassonne is breathtaking,
even in winter |
Carcassonne was featured
in the film The DaVinci Code, and is as breathtaking as it
is majestic, and is free to enter (the French seem to know
how to do things!). And surprisingly for such a magnetic
attraction, it is possible to find very reasonably priced
places to enjoy lunch or dinner. |
There are many bars and restaurants within the walled ancient
Cite de Carcassonne |
Fresh food markets are regularly held in Carcassonne, leaving
no excuses for buying ready-meals |
The Canal-du-Midi runs through the centre of Carcassonne |

| If you like shopping, the ‘new’ part
of Carcassonne, which is still old and very French, is full
of boutiques, bars and restaurants. The street market in the
main square is great fun, whether you just want to buy some
local vegetables, or sit outside at one of the bars and watch
everyone else do their work. |
It's fun to watch the boats pass through
the centre of Carcassonne on the Canal du Midi |
The Canal-du-Midi runs
through the centre of the city, and walking or jogging alongside
is a complete delight.
The town of Mazamet is about the same distance
in the opposite direction, further into the Black Mountains,
and has a regular market and many interesting shops, bars
and restaurants. |
The beautiful town of Mazamet is well worth a visit, further
up into the Black Mountains |
| For the explorer, you could board a train
at Carcassonne station and travel to Toulouse, or to the coast,
or even to Spain. Barcelona is only around three hours away. |
Take a picnic and go wandering through the nearby poppy fields |
Other closer attractions include the 18-hole
Carcassonne golf course, and several local supervised lakes
which have sandy beaches and full facilities. |

bicycles are available for use by our guests. |
Because of the varied
terrain, you are never far from the active sport of your
choice, such as rafting, canyoning and climbing.
The Camurac ski resort is about 90 minutes
from Carcassonne, so why not consider a winter break in Le
Petit Chateau, if skiing is your interest? |
Horse and pony riding is available
right next to Le Petit Chateau. There's an excercise trail
surrounding the nearby lake. Narbonne Plage is easy to get
to and about an hour from Carcassonne. Access to the Cite de
Carcassonne is easy. There are several lakes nearby suitable
for swimming and fishing. |
Whilst on the subject of skiing, on
a clear day you can see the mountain of Andorra (Andorra
is an independent country, which has a treaty with France
and Spain) from Le Petit Chateau’s
window.
Narbonne Plage has beautiful
beaches about an hour away from Carcassonne, and its nearby
town of Gruissan is definitely worth a visit.
